THE REALITY:
20 - 25% of Adult Americans
suffer from depression and/or anxiety
THOSE THREE WORDS...
Andy Welch, ultracyclist, is one of the 20-25 percent of adult Americans who suffer from depression. For more than 10 years, Andy suffered in silence. In early 2015, he had fallen into a place so dark he couldn’t see light or hope. He could envision ending his life and was frightened. Out of desperation, he clung to anyone so he would not be alone. Fortunately, Andy was lucky and someone recognized the signs and asked him, "are you depressed?"
PERSONAL MISSION:
Shortly after Andy started treatment for his depression, he partnered with the Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation to help reduce the stigma associated with depression and give hope to others, especially youth, who are suffering silently. To spread awareness and raise funds for the foundation, Andy decided to join a select few ultracyclists to compete in the world’s top endurance cycling event: Race Across America - 2017
